I was told by one friend years ago about 'the game'. I've never been much for games so it's always been difficult to understand formulas and such when it comes to anything let alone in the Photo 'biz'/world. A friend (art major at an 'accredited school'), commented on how art can be judged on how it relates back to what art came before it. Who cares what came before...isn't it about what you feel now? It's not natural for me to think about what people want to see or how they want it explained and what not. Isn't art supposed to be expressive from the artist? If it is the artists intent to pay homage to a previous artist or previous piece, then great, that artists should mention that in case people don't know what he/she is referring to. Kind of like a someone referencing an old tv show to an audience who has never watched tv or too young to have seen the show they are referencing. The last thing crossing my mind is how one project relates to another..because that shouldn't matter. Each project should stand on it's own for what it is totally unrelated to what other projects came before or projects to come after. Art shouldn't be about how it reminds you of other art, unless that IS the art. Ex: some of the sculptures in the Trenton NJ sculpture garden (Grounds for sculpture) are exact replicas of art from centuries long gone. Famous pieces that were originally 2 dimensional paintings are now totally recreated as 3 dimensional sculptures in a forest. Nice. But that IS the point in this art, though not original at all except in it's execution...it's still art. But, if someone wants to paint something 2 dimensional but not related to any previous style except by only coincidence and not purposefully done in the style of or directly influenced by etc. That too, is art. so what if it 'has been seen before' or hasn't. Art is what you feel, not what you go to school for. Art doesn't need to be studied in order to be felt. And the art that does need to be studied in order to be understood......... is THAT really art?

Posted this on FB the other day....look @ the reactions I got..pretty long thread, so I thought I would share by posting it here instead. Trust: I am NOT 'that' angry person LOL....I'm only calling a spade a spade. Being honest is often overlooked in our world. Saying that..yes I do still need an intern LOL

I need an intern..never thought I would say that
since I don't believe in slavery (yes internship is straight up slavery
when you are required to work 40 plus hours a week for NO pay (not
speaking about paid internships nor flexible/work when you want/can
internships. But, if 'OLD' $ made it via slavery, then I guess ...it's my turn...

1st response:
I am pretty sure slavery wasn't invented to give young people valuable work experience as well as college credit.

who can actually afford to do 40 hours a week for free?? people who already have $$...how does that hep those that don't when the only way you can get a 'good' job is via working for free on a strict schedule...then that doesn't leave much room for opportunity for those who can't afford to work 40 hours a week for free..unless they don't sleep and can moonlight on the side. I guess that would be the option. young people have bills too (When their parents don't pay them). So, what's the difference young or old when it comes to working for free

2nd response:
I'd say it's more like indentured servant. And like most of us, I got financial aid in college - some of it must be paid back eventually, but it sure feels like free money for college credit. Some scholarship $$ too - so I had no trouble making ends meet w/o help - and I guess this is true of some students today.

Straight A's in a public high school with low expectations does not equal grant money (or much of it anyway). Oh yeah, I had 3 jobs in college so I guess there were no free days to work for free anyway. An indentured servant got fed for free with free room and board...heck, once the U.S. even gave out land for free (Oklahoma late 1800's)--even to the Irish...as long as you weren't black I guess LOL. Actually I think even some black families got to take advantage of a land run here and there. Student loans aren't free. Not everyone is eligible for aid, nor grant $. College credit doesn't put food on the table til MAYBE years later or never if you are in the arts (aside from a 5% lucky group or previously connected group of folks). A free internship should not be the only way to get a job. If the company makes $ the company can pay something or not expect this intern to work a full time schedule nor turn down paid work when that person needs it. Look where an internship got Monica Lewinsky (see link http://www.who2.com/monicalewinsky.html ). Oh, I'd better not even get started on being a young cute female intern..hmmm I mean Monica wasn't even that 'fine' ... :)

yet another intern story..how did this get swept under the rug so fast, but Tiger woods situation (NOT a political figure) is still in the news (FYI this story was about 10 years ago...).... http://www.who2.com/chandralevy.html
